The doorbell rang, sending my nerves skyrocketing in response. Perhaps I should have suggested we went to a restaurant for this, but the idea of being in public and not being able to speak freely also wasn't right.

I smoothed down my dress, hoping it wasn't too fancy. Deciding what to wear for something that would look like a date to the outside world, but definitely wasn't a date to those of us within it, was hard.

"Pull yourself together," I muttered, heading towards the door and pulling it open.

My heart skipped a beat as I took in Ra standing on the other side. His open-necked shirt somehow made him look even hotter than the suit and tie at the wedding had done, and it was impossible to look at him without thinking about how it had felt to have his lips on mine, or how his beard had tickled my skin and not been in the slightest bit itchy.

"Hey," he said.

"Hi." My voice came out surprisingly hoarse. I cleared my throat. "Come in."

He paused as he entered, as if he wanted to do something like kiss me hello, but he must have thought better of it and just smiled instead.

"I didn't know what kind of sushi you liked so I might have gone overboard," I said, waving towards the dining table that was laden with all kinds of things. "Maybe I should have asked."

"I like all kinds," Ra said. "I brought wine." He lifted a bottle of rosé.

"No red?" I asked as I made my way into the room and gestured for him to take a seat.

"I like rosé too, it felt a little excessive for us to have a bottle of wine each."

"Mmm, good point." And that much wine could lead to some bad decisions.

Or very good decisions that still made things more complicated than they currently were.

He pulled out the chair and sat down while I fetched a corkscrew. I handed it to him, our fingers brushing against one another as he took it from me.

My breathing hitched and I looked up to meet his gaze, trying not to get too drawn in and completely lose sight of what we were doing.

Sushi was probably a good choice for food. It wasn't sexy and wouldn't distract me from what we were supposed to be doing.

"You never actually told me where we're going for your trip," I said as I accepted my glass of wine from him, being careful not to let our fingers touch this time.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to keep you in the dark. We're going on a cruise."

I blinked a few times. "A cruise?"

"You're not afraid of water, are you?"

"No, it's just that I was gifted some tickets for a cruise the same dates as you asked me to be free, it's just some weird coincidence."

He raised an eyebrow. "Gifted from who?"

"Erik Nilsen. The singer?"

He nodded. "I've heard of him."

"Well I guess the tickets didn't come from him, but from his manager. We've been working with him on a contract for a Jinx cruise.
